Dasara festival is celebrated across India with pomp and glory. Dasara is much awaited festival in Karnataka, as it is considered as state festival – Nada Habba.

Goddess Durga Devi pursued war at odds with the Demon Mahishasura. To help goddess Durga Devi to kill rakshasa Mahishasura, all other gods & goddesses gave their powers and stood like statues. During triumphed over Mahishasura on the 10th day of the war which is celebrated as Dashara(Nada Habba).To pay respect to the self-sacrifice of those supreme being the doll festival is discovered and worshipped as gods &goddesses in the form of dolls. This custom is believed and carried out since from the existence of the Vijayanagar Rule.

Dasara festival is celebrated for 10 days on the 10th day - Vijayadashami or Dasara, the day when Goddess Durga won the battle against Mahishasura after fighting for 9 days.

Most households follow a theme for the arrangement of dolls like Mahabharatha, Ramayana, or other Hindu mythological stories. Some households follow a simple & traditional way to show their creativity and showcase their divine love for Goddess Durga Devi. Every year people add  new collection of dolls to narrate a new story. These are typically made by rural artisans from clay and wooden materials then brightly painted. They are generally arranged in an odd number of padis (tiers) to tell a story.

During Navratri , people invite and visit friends and family & celebrate doll festival in each other families.

Some families have more than 100 years old dolls.
